Sam Ray is an Electronics Engineer with the Public Safety Communications Research Division (PSCR) at the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s (NIST) Communication Technology Laboratory. In that role, he serves as the Senior Systems Lead for research and development, primarily in the Mission Critical Voice (MCV) Research Portfolio. Prior roles included serving as the portfolio lead for MCV and for projects sponsored by the Department of Homeland Security and as a technical contributor to various projects in the portfolio. Before his arrival at NIST in 2016, Sam spent 20 years in various system test, deployment, and engineering management roles in cellular/long-term evolution (LTE) infrastructure and device teams for Motorola and Nokia. Sam earned his bachelor’s degree from Hardin-Simmons University and Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from Texas Tech University and studied systems engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington.
