5×5 Interact! Public Safety Scavenger Hunt

Experience public safety solutions firsthand!

Sign up to compete in clue-based challenges that help you explore Chicago as you try out situational awareness applications. Come test the functionalities and capabilities of the solutions so YOU get firsthand insight into their potential application in public safety operations.  

Following the scavenger hunt, participants will convene for a deep-dive discussion on Thursday, June 27 from 3-3:50 PM in the Ambassador Room, during which you can share your experience and provide feedback. During this public safety user dialogue, we will discuss the utility of the solutions, their operational capabilities, compare them with voice-centric solutions, and explore how these solutions might be deployed. We hope to facilitate meaningful insights and recommendations to enhance the effectiveness and usability of public safety technologies.

Important Information

There will be a pre-event huddle on Tuesday, June 25, at 3:30 p.m. CT to ensure all participants are set up with the necessary applications and have the support they may need. The huddle will be at the 5×5 Interact table, which is near the registration area on the second floor. During this time, participants must report any issues, technical difficulties, or safety/other concerns to event organizers.

The activity officially begins Tuesday, June 25, at 3:45 p.m. CT and concludes on Wednesday, June 26 at 6 p.m. CT. Note, this is a self-paced activity, and participants are required to Bring Your Own Device (tablet or smartphone) to use for the scavenger hunt.

Following the hunt, there will be a deep-dive discussion on Thursday, June 27, at 3 p.m. CT, where you can share your feedback and experiences.

Rules

  • Teams are restricted to 4-6 participants. Please adhere to this limit. In the event participants are unable to form a complete team, organizers may assign them to one.
  • Participants are encouraged to use the tools listed for the event to complete clues. However, participants are allowed to use other applications of their choice to complete tasks or compare functionalities of different solutions. Disclaimer: The event organizers do not endorse any specific tools or solutions used by participants.
  • This activity will be scored on the honor system. Teams are responsible for keeping track of their own scores as they complete clues. The point system is based on tiers, with higher points awarded for more challenging tasks.
  • Clues requiring participants to move outside of the venue are located within a reasonable distance from the conference hotel, typically within a one-mile radius. Please exercise caution and be aware of your surroundings when moving outside of the venue.
  • Please prioritize safety at all times! Maintain situational awareness and be cautious when moving around the venue and outside areas.
  • Participants must respect private property and privacy rights when completing clues outside of the venue. Do not trespass or enter restricted areas.
  • Participants are required to demonstrate fair play by using and engaging with the applications.
  • Each participant is responsible for their own safety and the security of their devices throughout the hunt. Event organizers bear no responsibility for any harm to individuals or damage to equipment during the activity.

Clues

Navy Wheel

At the Navy Pier, where skyline meets the sea, stands the towering Wheel, an icon to see. Snap a pic, share the view to progress on your adventure, this task is due. 

Instructions: Use the application to capture a photo of the landmark. Share it on your Team Channel within the app and drop a map marker. The photo must include at least one team member in the picture.

Mirror, Mirror

Mirror, mirror, on the ground, reflecting Chicago all around. Giant bean or silver dome? Take a 360° video to show back home! Where in Millennium Park does it stand? Answer quick to complete this plan!

Instructions: Use the application to capture a short 360-degree video at the landmark and include at least one team in the video. Share it on your Team Channel within the app and drop a map marker.

BOLO #1

Be on the Lookout, subject in sight, whose photos speak a thousand bytes!

Instructions: Upon receiving the BOLO, use the details to locate the person. First, you will receive a physical and clothing description of the individual via voice and text. Teams have 20 minutes to find the subject and make contact based on this description. After 20 minutes, a photo of the subject will be released, and teams will have an additional 10 minutes to locate and make contact with the subject.

After making contact with the correct target, ask this person the question provided in the BOLO.

Note on scoring: If the target is identified using only voice and text, teams receive the full 100 possible points. If the photo is used to identify the target, teams receive a maximum of 50 points.

BOLO #2

Instructions: Explore the FirstNet App catalog on the FirstNet.com website and answer the question above. Send your answer to the Team Channel within the application you’re using.

FirstNet-Certified App

Navigate the app catalog’s aisles in this race, discover an app designed for your space. Seek one relevant within your chosen sphere, and ensure it is FirstNet-Certified, crystal clear! 

Instructions: Explore the FirstNet App catalog on the FirstNet.com website and answer the question above. Send your answer to the Team Channel within the application you’re using.

Map Pins

On the map, drop pins with care, coordinates marked, a path to prepare. Follow each point, where details unfold, secrets revealed, tales untold. 

Ice Cream Museum

Instructions: Using your application, navigate to the location, drop a marker/pin on the map, and send a photo to the team channel within the application you’re using. The photo must include at least one team member in the picture.

Mystery musical location that was once a lavish palace

Instructions: Follow the map marker to the location and send a photo to the Team Channel within the application. The photo must include at least one team member in the picture.

Museum of Illusions

Instructions: Using your application, navigate to the location, drop a map marker, and change the attributes of the marker.

Tower, Icon of Grace

In the heart of the city’s bustling beat, stands a survivor from history’s heat. Head to Michigan Ave, Pearson Street’s embrace, find the tower, an icon of grace. 

Instructions: Use the application to capture a photo of the landmark. Share it on your Team Channel within the app and mark the coordinates on a map. The photo must include at least one team member in the picture.

Unveil the Bridge

Unveil the bridge, once tied to a street’s fame, now honoring Chicago’s foundational name. Take a photo or leave a mark, use these coordinates to embark! (41.889024417963356, -87.62432472010565).

Instructions: Use the application to search up the coordinates provided and complete the clue. Drop a marker or send a photo in the team channel. The photo must include at least one team member in the picture.

Tech Booth

In this tech-filled land, don’t be shy, snap 5 tech booths to reach the sky. To find the hotel where you dwell, decode its coordinates and do tell.

Instructions: Use the application to share photos of 5 technology demonstration booths you explored. Find the precise coordinates of the hotel, and report those. 

Selfie Snap

Wrap up the hunt with a team selfie snap, send it our way to close the map!

Instructions: Send a selfie of your team in the Team Channel.
