Katrina Petersen is a Senior Research Consultant – Social Impact, for Public Safety Communication Europe and is part of the European Critical Communication System (EUCCS) Preparation leadership team, representing the Operational Procedures Team (OPT). She has expertise in social science research that is directly part of design and innovation processes, working in between crisis responders, technology developers, and the communities they serve. She specializes in research that raises awareness of the societal and ethical impact of emerging technologies to better align innovation with benefits for all of society. She is published on topics relating to ethical impact assessments, designing with users, socio-technical resilience, communication implications of risk mapping, and transboundary disaster data sharing. She has overseen work in a range of multi-national research and innovation projects. Katrina holds a PhD in Communication and Science Studies from the University of California, San Diego.
