Prototyping physical tracked objects for public safety VR

Tue, June 3 - Thu, June 5

This demo showcases the recent work by the National Institute of Standards and Technology's Public Safety Communications Research Division’s (NIST PSCR) user interface/user experience (UI/UX) team on creating physical objects that have built-in virtual reality (VR) tracking and computers to simulate the real-world tools used by first responders in the field. The goal is to see if these objects can replace VR controllers and hand gestures to create more immersive and intuitive VR experiences. In this demo, visitors will get hands on experience with these new physical props and compare them to traditional VR controllers in our HAZMAT VR simulation.
