Robert C. Simmons currently serves as the Deputy Fire Chief of U.S. Army Garrison – Redstone Arsenal, in Huntsville, Alabama.
Robert began his career in public safety as a volunteer firefighter in his hometown. With a desire to serve in the military, he joined the United States Army as a firefighter (12M). Robert has subsequently served in Army Fire and Emergency Services as both a soldier and civilian for 24 years. His previous assignments as an Army civilian includes: Station Captain, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama; Assistant Fire Chief (Training), Camp Red Cloud and Area 1, Korea; Assistant Fire Chief (Operations), Ft. Leavenworth, KS; and Assistant Fire Chief (Operations), Redstone Arsenal, Alabama.
He has an extensive history of serving in highly successful Army Fire and Emergency Services Organizations, and he has always been an early adopter of new tools and technology to improve emergency response. As a result, he was recently awarded U.S. Army Installation Management Command’s coveted Stalwart Award for his work in deploying FirstNet to Army first responders.
His education includes a master’s degree in crisis and trauma counseling from Liberty University, and a bachelor’s degree in fire service administration from Waldorf University. He is also credentialed as a Chief Fire Officer (CFO) by the Center for Public Safety Excellence (CPSE).
