Dr. Joseph L. Gabbard, a professor in the Department of Industrial and System Engineering at Virginia Tech, also directs the COGnitive Engineering for Novel Technologies (COGENT) Lab. With over two decades of expertise in Augmented Reality (AR) user interface design, his research primarily investigates the intersection of user interface design and human performance. Dr. Gabbard’s work involves developing experiments to explore perceptual and cognitive affordances of novel AR designs, with applications spanning transportation, military operations, search and rescue, education, and emergency response.
