Kansas, an early adopter of Next Generation 9-1-1 and FirstNet, has upgraded its emergency communication infrastructure by transitioning to a digital framework and leveraging public safety broadband. This session explores the Kansas 9-1-1 Coordinating Council’s innovative initiatives, using FirstNet as a failover for statewide redundancy, a mobile command vehicle used statewide for training and dispatching, and the statewide deployment of the new Lightning app. Lightning provides all responders with a common operating picture of location accuracy, situational awareness, and call/incident details.
