The Public Safety Communications Research (PSCR) Division, housed within the Communications Technology Laboratory (CTL) at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), is the primary federal laboratory conducting research, development, testing, and evaluation for public safety communications technologies. PSCR has focused on driving innovation to meet the critical needs of public safety by working closely with first responders and industry to advance mission critical voice, data, video, and location-based services communications.
The First Responder Network Authority, or the FirstNet Authority, is an independent agency within the U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA). The FirstNet Authority’s mission is to ensure the building, deployment, and operation of the nationwide public safety broadband network that equips first responders to save lives and protect U.S. communities. The network is being delivered in a public-private partnership with AT&T. The FirstNet Authority continues to consult with public safety to evolve the network and ensure it meets their current and future broadband needs.
